Handmade Stoneware Bowls by Marty Ikkanda
Donated by Marty Ikkanda
Over the years, Marty and Cathy Ikkanda have graced Monte Nido with their beautifully constructed collections of pottery and paintings and last year were the featured artists at the King Gillette Ranch Visitor Center.
Marty Ikkanda is a Sansei (third generation Japanese American) potter whose work embodies the Japanese philosophy of mingei: “hand-crafted art of ordinary people”. Ikkanda grew up in the Sawtelle area of West LA and his pottery reflects the cultural diversity of this environment: Traditional Japanese aesthetic meld with contemporary designs in his functional pieces.
