 Get ready to dive deep into the wonders of our local environment with the exciting Malibu Monarch Lecture Series: Santa Monica Mountains Your Backyard! The City of Malibu's Community Services Department is thrilled to present this captivating series, designed to bring the vibrant ecology, amazing biodiversity, and the crucial future of our beloved mountains front and center. It's time to truly embrace the idea that for those of us living in this breathtaking region, our environment isn't just a view – it's our very own backyard!

California, one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, celebrates California Biodiversity Week each September to honor its unique plants, animals, and ecosystems while raising awareness about conservation. On Saturday, September 7, 2025, visitors are invited to join National Park Service rangers and partners in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area for a free beginner-friendly Nature Journaling Workshop. Participants will learn to slow down, observe, and record their experiences in nature, deepening their connection to the land and helping celebrate California’s incredible biodiversity.

The Monte Nido Valley Community Association will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. The event will be hosted at 25834 Piuma Road, with parking available in the oval driveway and an overflow area in the nearby oak forest. The black metal gates will be open for attendees.

The recent Palisades Fire, with its devastating sweep through our canyons, followed by the inevitable mudslides, left the vital artery known as PCH choked and impassable. It was a stark reminder of just how essential this stretch of State Route 1 (SR 1) is to our daily lives, our commutes, and our very sense of community.

What a day! The Monte Nido Parade and Picnic was an absolute blast, and it truly wouldn't have been possible without the incredible dedication and hard work of our wonderful volunteers. From setting up the festivities to ensuring every last piece of water balloon was picked up, your efforts made this year's event a resounding success. We are so incredibly grateful for your time, energy, and unwavering community spirit!
