🌙 Dark Sky Night 5 & 6: A Weekend of Wonder

Dark Sky week is a reminder of how the night sky affects our mind, body, and spirit. Our always "on" culture is not a natural state of being for any living thing. We all need moments of recuperation and rest where our system is able to regenerate and get the energy levels back up. When we move from screen to screen throughout our day (computer, television, phone), we don't allow our bodies to sync up to the natural flow of life around us, and ultimately that misalignment can cause a lot of problems down the road.

So this weekend, make an effort to spend time away from all forms of artificial light and give your body a rest. Shut your computer, turn off notifications, and listen to the sound of frogs and the crickets at night. Look up at the sky, let your eyes adjust to the darkness, and see how many constellations you can spot. Make yourself some tea, write in a journal, and go to bed early. Future you will thank past you for it.

HERE ARE SOME IDEAS OF THINGS TO DO IN THE DARK

  • Go for a night walk around the neighborhood

  • Light candles and read, write, paint, knit, play music, or play board games

  • Put on a shadow puppet theater show

  • Tell ghost stories

  • [insert your own personal self-care / family-care ritual here]
